The third time proved to be the charm for head coach James Stinson and the Livingstone Blue Bears. Appearing in the program’s third championship game in four years, Livingstone picked up its first CIAA Championship as it defeated Winston-Salem State 83-68 on Saturday night.
Seniors Mark Thomas and Jody Hill led the way with 23 and 21 points, respectively. Eric Mayo added a game-high 17 rebounds.
Livingstone led by as many as 20 points in the second half. WSSU managed to cut the lead to 58-51 with under nine minutes to go, but didn’t have the gas to pull off another miracle comeback. Hill was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Livingstone will represent the CIAA in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.
