CIAA teams still have one more game to play before the start of the tournament on Saturday, but the conference has already announced it’s postseason awards. Livingstone’s Mark Thomas and Virginia State’s Lamesha Deal were named Men’s and Women’s Players of The Year.
Thomas has led the Blue Bears to their second-consecutive Southern Division title while averaging a league-high 21.2 points per game. Deal average 15 points and 8 rebounds per game for the Trojans, who are nationally ranked and 23-1 heading into today’s finale.
Winston-Salem State led the men’s team with three members (Wykevin Bazemore, Preston Ross and Marquez Jones) while Virginia State had three members of the women’s team (Tiffanie Adair, Lamesha Deal and Jessica Lyons.
