Top Spots In Both CIAA Divisions Could Switch On Saturday

Lincoln at Bowie State *

There will be a lot on the line when these two rivals clash tomorrow. Bowie currently sits atop the CIAA North despite having lost six conference games, including a 71-50 blowout to Lincoln in January. BSU has been on a roll since then, winning four straight. LU dropped its next two divisional matchups against Elizabeth City and Virginia Union, finding itself in a tie with ECSU for second place. A win would be huge, as it would even up the teams divisional records and give Lincoln the tie-breaker by virtue of sweeping Bowie.

Bowie State’s Ray Gaitling has been solid all season, averaging 18 points per game and lighting up Elizabeth City State for 26 points in his last outing. Lincoln will need guard George Jackson to step it up. He averages 13 ppg, but has just 15 points in his last two games and has hit just 4 of his last 21 shots.

*This game will be televised on Bounce TV

Fayetteville State at Johnson C. Smith

While this game won’t totally decide who takes first place in the Southern Division, it means a lot for both teams with the regular season winding down. Fayetteville State is currently tied atop the division along with Livingstone, both of which enter Saturday at 4-1. Fayetteville State lost to Livingstone which lost to…Johnson C. Smith.

JCSU is simply trying to stop the bleeding after having lost four of its last six games, including back-to-back double digit losses to Winston-Salem State and Shaw. They’ve had a tendency to play up or down to their level of competition, so if that trend continues, we might have a game on our hands.

This will be a matchup of the two best low post players in the league, JCSU’s Emilio Parks (17 ppg, 8 rpg, 59 percent) and FSU’s Tyrell Tate (18 ppg, 5 rpg, 50 percent).

Other Games:

Livingstone at Shaw
Winston-Salem at St. Augustine’s

Elizabeth City State at Chowan
