For the second time in a week, it appears that Mississippi Valley State has its head coaching candidate. Football Scoop is reporting that Morehouse head coach Rich Freeman will take the reigns of the Itta Bena, MS program. This comes less than a week after the job was supposedly offered to former Jackson State coach Rick Comegy.
Miss Valley State reportedly not able to financially hire Rick Comegy & planned staff – now plan to hire Morehouse head coach Rich Freeman.

Freeman was reportedly the team’s backup plan after it had difficulty meeting Comegy’s salary demands. Freeman went 30-21 in five seasons as Morehouse’s head coach, but went just 2-8 last season. If this hire holds up, it will leave three Division II HBCUs (Central State, Virginia Union and Morehouse) without head coaches. An announcement is expected to be made on Tuesday.
