The Macon native chose JSU over Duke to be closer to home for personal reasons. Although planning to transfer after his freshman year, Jones said he wanted to stay and continue playing under defensive line coach Jonathan Thompson.
“Ted (Terrell) and Ced (Hogan) knew that I wanted to take their spots, but they helped me in my position,” said Jones, who played at Noxubee County High School. “The D-line, we were all one family.”
Jones had a solid freshman year, recording 54 tackles and five sacks. He helped JSU get to the SWAC Championship, where it fell to Southern in overtime.
