Tennessee State Wins 12th Black College Football Title

Ten days after becoming the first HBCU to win an FCS playoff game since 1999, Tennessee State has another feather in its cap. The Tigers finished first in the final Sheridan Black College Football Poll, beating out Bethune-Cookman and two-time defending champion Winston-Salem State.

Tennessee State now has 12 Black College Football Championships, second all-time behind Grambling. TSU finished 10-4, winning an at-large bid to the NCAA Playoffs. They beat Butler 31-0 in the opening round before bowing out to Eastern Illinois 51-10 in the second round.

This is TSU’s first BCF Title since 1982. That team featured future NFL Hall of Famer Richard Dent.
