MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman (10-2) received a bid, as did runner-up South Carolina State (9-3). Tennessee State (9-3) received an at-large bid out of Ohio Valley Conference.
Bethune-Cookman was awarded the MEAC’s automatic bid after clinching the conference title with a win over FAMU on Saturday, its second-straight and third in four years. BCU beat both TSU and SC State this season. BCU will travel to Coastal Carolina (10-2) on Nov. 30.
SC State rebounded from a down 2012 season to finish just behind BCU in the MEAC. Its three losses came against two playoff teams (BCU and Coa Carolina) and FBS powerhouse Clemson. SCSU will host Furman (7-5) on Nov. 30.
Tennessee State started out the season strong, winning seven of its first eight games. The Tigers finished 2-2 in the final third of the season, but it was enough to grab an at-large bid in a tough OVC. TSU will travel to Butler (9-3).
