MEAC Week Nine: Players Of The Week

Offensive Player of The Week
Adrian Wilkins, NC Central

Wilkins had a huge all-around day for NC Central on Saturday, catching nine passes for 105 yards, including a 19 yard touchdown. He was also huge in the return game, scoring on an 82 yard punt return to help NCCU get back on track against Savannah State. Wilkins finished with 241 all-purpose yards. 

Defensive Players of The Week 
Joe Thomas, SC State
Tavarus Dantzler, BCU 

Saturday’s BCU-SC State matchup was billed as a defensive battle, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Leading the way for both teams were outstanding linebackers, BCU’s Jarkevis Fields and SC State’s Joe Thomas. Thomas recorded a game-high 16 tackles, two of which went for losses, including a sack. He also recovered a fumble.

Dantzler came away with 10 tackles, two for loss, including a sack. He also forced two fumbles and broke up a pass as BCU came up with the big win.

Rookie of The Week
Anthony Philyaw, Howard

Howard had a big day on the ground against Morgan State, and Philyaw was a big part of that. The freshman from Los Angeles rushed for three touchdowns on the day, and finished with 98 yards as Howard won its second straight game.
