Coaching Change Ends Grambling Player Strike

Dennis “Dirt” Wilson has been named interim head coach at Grambling.

A chaotic 48-hour sequence of events appears to have produced the desired result for members of the Grambling State football program: a new coach. A two-day practice boycott has resulted in the removal of interim head coach George Ragsdale and apparently ended the player strike.
According to the report, safety Naquan Smith revealed that the players wanted Ragsdale gone at a student gathering Thursday afternoon.

“As a team, we feel like we wanted (Ragsdale) to actually step down,” Smith said. “(The team) is behind us because they know what we’ve been going through. They know the struggle. We said we’re behind each other 100 percent.”

Grambling will play Jackson State Saturday at 2 PM CST.
