Ex-Vanderbilt player JaBorian “Tip” McKenzie’s time on the Alcorn State football team is over, at least for now. Alcorn State announced today that McKenzie has been suspended from the team “until further notice.”
The controversy stems from the fact that McKenzie, 19 is one of four ex-Vanderbilt players facing charges of aggravated rape and battery. He and his ex-teammates are charged with raping and unconscious Vandy student on campus in June and were dismissed from the school on June 29th.
“Alcorn failed to sufficiently examine the allegations against McKenzie before allowing him to participate in our football program,” said ASU President Christopher Brown. “In an effort to provide educational opportunities to a Southwest Mississippi student, Alcorn State University made an error in judgment.”
McKenzie caught just one pass for four yards against Mississippi State last week.
