Bleacher Report: Four HBCU Prospects Make Mock Draft

UAPB lineman Terron Armstead appears to be the top HBCU prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft.

One round of the NFL Draft is hard enough to predict, much less the entire seven rounds. But that’s exactly what Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has done. Out of the 224 picsk in the draft, Miller sees four HBCU prospects as likely draftees. Checkout who made his list:

*Terron Armstead, UAPB: Miller has Armstead rated as a mid-second round pick, going to the San Diego Chargers at the 45th overall slot. The 6’5, 306 pound lineman put together an impressive career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, helping UAPB win the SWAC championship in 2012. But it was his outstanding 4.71 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine that helped propel him into a possible Second Day draftee.

Pough capped off an impressive college career by breaking the NCAA tackles for loss record while being named MEAC Defensive Player of The Year. Pough is thought to have hurt his stock at the Combine by running a 4.90 in the 40 yard dash. Still, you don’t put up the type of production Pough did without being a gamer. If he lasts until the fourth round, he could easily end up as a steal in this draft.

* Jakir Hamilton, South Carolina State: Last week we reported Hamilton met with the Washington Redskins. Perhaps Miller has some sources that tell him things went well, because he has the team selecting Hamilton with their 6th round selection, 191st overall in the draft.

*Vernon Kearney, Lane College:  Lane may not be a household name, but they have a history of producing diamonds in the rough (Fred Lane, Jacoby Ford). The 6’2, 179 pound cornerback could possibly be another. Thanks to his size and solid performances in several college all-star games, Miller has him going to the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round, 224nd overall selection.
