Quick Hits: Spartans Achieve (Regular Season) MEAC Immortality

Pendarvis Williams and Norfolk State head in to the MEAC Tourney as a no. 1 seed. (Zimbio)

Norfolk State held off North Carolina A&T in its home finale last night, winning it’s 15th straight game and its first MEAC regular-season conference title. The Spartans (21-10) became just the fourth MEAC team in four decades to complete the regular season with an unblemished (16-0) conference record. NSU will face the winner of the Coppin State/Bethune-Cookman matchup next Wednesday in the MEAC tournament. Check out the full bracket here.

-North Carolina Central stifled a Hampton rally attempt, picking up a 68-64 win on the road. The win was NCCU’s fifth in a row, and fifteenth in the last sixteen games. The Eagles will head back to the 757 next week as the no. 2 seed in the MEAC. Hampton finished its regular season third in the MEAC with an 11-5 conference mark. These two teams could see each other again, however, if both win their quarterfinal games next Wednesday.

-Shoutout to St. Augustine’s University for the link to the Division II Track and Field Championships. Watch live Friday and Saturday as dozens of HBCU athletes go for glory. St. Aug’s is one of the favorites in the meet.

– Elizabeth City State’s Angelo Sharpless is closing in on High Point’s Cory Law, but he needs a few more votes to get into the Denny’s Slam Dunk competition. Voting ends this weekend.
