Jackson State football: Best FCS HBCU offense?

The Jackson State football offense is becoming dangerous and explosive, one of the top offenses in FCS football and the best in HBCU D1 Football. Jackson State head coach TC Taylor has found a rhythm and flow with its offense this 2024 season.

JSU is currently averaging 35.5 points per game — ranked 12th in FCS football. The next HBCU on the list is North Carolina Central ranked at 15th with an average of 34.7 points.

Jackson State has scored over 30 points four times this season and is coming off back-to-back 40 point performances. It has found a good balance of spreading the ball around through the air with quarterback Jacobian Morgan and pounding it on the ground.

The Tigers have rushed for 999 yards with an average of 5.2 yards per rush. The run game averages 166.5 yards per game, and they have scored 12 rushing touchdowns.

JSU jumped out to a fast and early start over Alabama A&M in its previous matchup. The JSU offense roared out of the game taking command on the ground and the air scoring 38 points by halftime. Even with the early and fast start, Taylor knew it wasn’t over.

“I’m very proud of my football team, I told them at the half they weren’t going to stop fighting,” Taylor said during a recent SWAC coaches call.

Alabama A&M came out of halftime trying to make a miraculous comeback and win the game before JSU closed the door.

With Jackson State football having the week off for their bye week, it has a big game next up against FAMU, the defending HBCU national champion. JSU should be well rested and prepared for its big matchup. But the question is — will its high flying offense be able to stay on track while having a week off?
