An HBCU football program is mourning the loss of one of its student-athletes.
Florida Memorial University wide receiver Marcus Williams Jr. passed away recently in a car accident. Williams is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and was on the 2023 football roster for FMU. He caught eight passes for 79 yards and one touchdown. The football program’s instagram page announced his passing on Monday morning.
“On behalf of the entire FMU football family, we want to extend our deepest condolences to you during this incredibly difficult time,” the account posted on Instagram. “Marcus was more than just an athlete to us; he was a cherished member of our team and community, whose presence made an impact on everyone around him. His dedication, spirit, and kindness will always be remembered, and though he may no longer be with us physically, he will forever remain in our hearts and memories. We will miss him greatly on and off the field. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Florida Memorial University is an HBCU located in Miami Gardens. It is one of the most recent additions to HBCU football, starting its program in 2020.
