HBCU Football: FAMU vs U of Miami at Hard Rock Stadium

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– The reigning HBCU National Champions and 24th-FCS-ranked Florida A&M (FAMU) Rattlers fell 56-9 to the 12th-ranked FBS Miami Hurricanes on the road Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Miami Hurricanes improved to 2-0 on the season while the Rattlers dropped to 2-1.

Dorian Collier led all Rattlers rushers with 31 yards in the contest, picking up 6.2 yards per carry. Kelvin Dean also added 27 yards on the ground, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.

Jamari Gassett pulled in five catches for 57 yards.

Simion Hines showed out for the Florida A&M defense, recording 1.0 TFL and one sack. Deco Wilson had eight tackles in the loss.

How It Happened

Miami (FL) opened an early 15-0 lead, but Florida A&M got on the board with :49 left in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 15-3.The Rattlers responded with a field goal after Miami (FL) increased its lead to 25-3 to make it a 25-6 game.

Miami (FL) scored to increase their lead to 39-6 before FAMU answered with 7:29 remaining in the third quarter and narrowed the gap to 39-9. The HBCU champs didn’t score again in the game and Miami (FL) tacked on 17 more points to finish off the scoring.

» Xavier Restrepo was Miami (FL)’s leading receiver with 104 yards and one touchdown.

The official game attendance at Hard Rock Stadium was listed at 57,886.
