Just three weeks into being declared the starting quarterback at Florida A&M (FAMU), Daniel Richardson is making the most of his position.  He has been at the helm of the Rattle offense for both of their wins.

Last week he earned the BoxToRow Player of the Week in week zero against Norfolk State.  He went 22-of-30 for 286 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Rattlers to a comeback victory over NSU in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.  He followed that up by repeating as BoxToRow Player of the Week with his performance in the Rattlers’ 22-18 win against South Carolina State.  He would also earn Stats Perform and SWAC Offensive Players of the Week.

In week two, Richardson went 23-of-38 for 282 and three more touchdowns with no interceptions.  On the season, he has thrown for 568 yards and six touchdowns with a 66.18% clip with a long completion of 55 yards.

Richardson has led the Rattlers to two wins

The Rattlers are off to a 2-0 record, defeating MEAC schools for its first two wins.  He has also been effective rushing the ball for FAMU.  In the opening week against NSU, he gained 32 yards on three carries. Richardson’s ability to extend plays has been a hallmark of his play.  In the win against SCSU, he would rush for another 27 yards.

On Tuesday, Daniel Richardson was awarded in person by Gary Reasons from Stats Perform at practice. He was given his plaque on campus representing their first-ever HBCU National Player of the Week award.

So far this season, Richardson has targeted 12 different receivers.  He has utilized his tight ends to perfection during his starts, which is not as commonly used in college football today.  Koby Gross, one of three tight ends who see considerable action, leads all receivers with 151 yards.  He is followed by Jamari Gassett who has hauled in passes to the tune of 118 yards.

The Rattlers will travel to South Florida to take on the University of Miami Hurricanes in Miami Gardens in Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
