Ed Reed reveals how his HBCU commit got to Colorado football

Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed recently took a visit to speak to Deion Sanders’ Colorado football  – in person. The former Miami Hurricane and Baltimore Raven safety visited the Colorado football squad and spoke briefly about his dalliance with HBCU Bethune-Cookman.

“I get a call on a Tuesday from coach (Prime), to go coach at the school he left (Jackson State) before he came here (Colorado). I said ‘I would, man, but I got a call yesterday from another school,” Reed told the football squad in a speech filmed by Thee Pregame Show.

Of course, Ed Reed would accept the job at Bethune-Cookman, but it would be short-lived as he would be dismissed before signing a contract. Reed recounted his version of the story for the players, including the players who committed to playing for him at the HBCU. One of those players was quarterback Dominiq Ponder who redshirted at Bethune-Cookman last year.

Ponder is now a backup quarterback for Deion Sanders at Colorado football.

“You never know where God’s gonna take your life, young men!” Reed told the players.
