BALTIMORE, Md. – HBCU women’s basketball coach Edward Davis Jr. will be inducted into the Delaware State University Athletics 2024 Hall of Fame class on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Dover, Delaware.
Davis, who enters his ninth season as head coach of the Morgan State University women’s basketball program, made significant contributions to Delaware State’s athletic legacy. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on the DSU Dover Campus, honoring Davis and 12 other individuals for their outstanding contributions to the university’s athletic legacy.
In recognition of Davis’s accomplishment, the Hall of Fame class will also be acknowledged during halftime of the Hornets’ football game against Morgan State at Alumni Stadium on Saturday, November 9th. HOF Tickets and ads.
Under the guidance of Davis, the Delaware State Lady Hornets achieved unprecedented success, culminating in the program’s lone Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament championship in 2007. This victory earned the Hornets an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, marking a historic milestone for the HBCU women’s basketball program.
In their NCAA Tournament debut, the 15th-seeded Lady Hornets only trailed by three (43-40) with nine minutes left before ultimately falling to No. 2 seed Vanderbilt in the 2007 NCAA Tournament contest.
Davis’ legacy as the winningest coach in Delaware State Lady Hornets history is undeniable. Throughout his 12 seasons at the helm, he amassed an impressive 178 overall wins, including a remarkable 121-85 record (.587) in MEAC games. Davis played a pivotal role in elevating the Delaware State Lady Hornets basketball program to new heights, leaving an indelible mark on the university’s athletic history.
A native of Washington, D.C., Edward Davis Jr. was inducted into the West Virginia State Athletics Hall of Fame as a player in October 2008 and the Bowie State Hall of Fame as a coach in May 2014. In September 2017, Davis was inducted into his third Hall of Fame when his 2006-07 Delaware State women’s team was inducted for capturing the 2007 MEAC title.
