Steve Harvey congratulates HBCU Golfers at PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship

Comedian Steve Harvey spent the week at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. While he was there to enjoy some of the best HBCU golfers competing for a national championship, he was also there to work on his own game a little bit.

“I’ve been out here since the tournaments started, and I’ll be out here till Friday because, I’m trying to learn how to hit my driver in the fairway. So I’ll be out here till next week.Figuring that out,” Harvey laughingly said to HBCU Gameday’s Vaughn Wilson.

“But, no, I mean, it’s great, man, to see these young cats get into the game. My only regret is I didn’t pick up the game when I was young. I wish I had picked it up when I was young, but it’s a great game and I wish I wish them well,” he continued.

The Family Feud star enjoyed watching some of the final round and offered congratulations to the winners and competitors.

“It’s hard man, to be great. You got to get after it. Depends on who want it out here, you know. But they look good though. Congratulations to FAMU, I saw the single for the men’s Michigan (Yuqi Liu) won it. So I’ve been watching it and then I met the girl that won it for the girls championship. Howard took second. So all that was good,” Harvey said.

According to TV Guide, Steve Harvey has 43 credits to his name as a television host alone.

What is The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship?

According to the PGA the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship annually hosts student-athletes enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and other Minority-Serving Educational Institutions.

The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) was created in 1986 to highlight competitive golf programs at the most underserved and underrepresented Minority-Serving Institutions in the country, and educate and inspire student-athletes to pursue career opportunities in the business of golf and beyond. PWCC is considered the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf (75% of 2023 players identified as “non-white”).

The Championship is a 54-hole, stroke-play event contested across five divisions from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).
