HBCU snags University of Alabama kicker from portal

Alabama Crimson Tide kicker signs with HBCU Grambling

Former University of Alabama placekicker Reed Harradine announced on social media that he has signed with Grambling to play football. The once SEC now HBCU kicker says that he’ll kick and punt for Grambling.

Harradine was a walk on kicker for the Crimson Tide but didn’t contribute any stats during the 2023 football season. He announced on April 16 via social media that he was entering the portal and would have four years of eligibility remaining.

The kicker spent just one season with the Crimson Tide before entering the transfer portal in April. Harradine entered the transfer portal after being named in a lawsuit for an alleged hit-and-run crash he was involved in last October that injured another man in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Reed Harradine admitted to driving a 2016 GMC Sierra that allegedly failed to yield to a green light while making a left turn and crashed into the driver’s side door and rear quarter panel of a car driven by Timothy Moore of Birmingham. After the collision Harradine reportedly left the scene. The following day Harradine admitted to being the driver according to reports.

His parents spoke out against Moore’s attorneys for holding a press conference announcing the lawsuit.

“Mr. Moore’s attorneys are attempting to damage our son’s reputation to promote their law firm. It is shameful that the lawyers for Mr. Moore would try the case in the media.  It is unusual, if not unheard of, for a law firm to hold a press conference regarding a traffic collision.

Last week, our attorneys requested documentation regarding Mr. Moore’s alleged serious injuries. That is something requested in any case.  Counsel for Mr. Moore did not produce any such documentation and instead filed the lawsuit one day after receiving the request. We disagree with allegations suggesting Mr. Moore was seriously injured in the collision.”

Last season Grambling was third in the conference in punts at 36.3 net yards per punt. GSU hit 33 of 36 point after attempts last year along with going 7-13 on field goal attempts. Grambling was second in the conference in kickoffs averaging 40.3 net yards per kick.

Mickey Joseph took over as head coach of the HBCU in December after Grambling parted ways with Hue Jackson.
