Tennessee State University player saved girlfriend before tragic hit-and-run

Chazan Page spent his time at Tennessee State University protecting his teammates. The 20-year-old ultimately lost his life protecting a loved one.

Page was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run in Nashville, TN early Sunday morning, according to police. Jayda Jernigan, Page’s girlfriend, said that he died trying to protect her.

“A car was going probably like 100 miles an hour down the street,” Jernigan told Fox 17. “We were walking, but I was on the side where the car was It happened so fast. But yeah, (Chazan) pushed me out of the way, and he got the brunt of it all.”

Page had just participated in the Tennessee State University spring game just hours earlier. He was remembered by friends and coaches as a beacon of light for those around him.

Chazan Page was a center/guard on the Tennessee State University football squad.

“He was like a gentle giant,” said Jamie Graham, Chazan’s coach at Lipscomb Academy. “Everyone loved him He had, oh my goodness the greatest smile I’ve ever seen. I truly mean it.”

“To know Chazan was to love him,” said Lee Burklow, who coached Chazan in elementary school. “He had an infectious smile and demeanor about him that people gravitated towards. He was a Teddy bear off the gridiron and a True Tiger between the lines. He will be sorely missed.”

Nashville Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed page. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver or the red vehicle should call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
