HAMPTON, Va. (March 29, 2024) … Hampton University has announced game times for all home and conference games for the 2024 football season along with a couple of location changes. The 12-game schedule includes six home games, five away contests, and one neutral site match-up.
The 2024 campaign kicks off on Aug. 31 when the Pirates host longtime rival Morgan State at 6:00 p.m. Hampton’s game with the Bears has been moved from Harrison, N.J. to Hampton’s Armstrong Stadium. The game was originally scheduled as the Prudential Brick City Classic.
Coach Robert Prunty‘s team takes on Virginia Union a week later on Sept. 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Armstrong Stadium. The Pirates then travel to Norfolk to take on Norfolk State on Sept 14.
A week later, Hampton University travels to Washington, D.C. to play Howard University at Audi Field on Sept. 21. Hampton’s game with Howard, originally scheduled to be played at Armstrong Stadium, has been moved to Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The two teams have agreed to continue the series at Audi Field through 2026. The series dates back to 1908 when the Pirates prevailed, 2-0. The game will mark the 98th meeting between the two teams. Hampton leads the series by a 54-42-1 margin. The Pirates have won the last six meetings with the Bison.
The Pirates open the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) portion of the schedule on Sept. 28 at William & Mary with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff before returning home to take on Rhode Island on Oct. 5 at 2:00 p.m. Hampton travels to Greensboro, N.C. to face North Carolina A&T on Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m.
Hampton will celebrate Homecoming on Oct. 26 when the Pirates face off with Elon at 1:00 p.m.
In November, Hampton will host Villanova on Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m. before playing Towson on the road on Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. The season’s final home date is Nov. 16 versus state rival Richmond at 1:00 p.m. before the Pirates close out the 2024 regular season at Albany on Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
Last year, the CAA had four teams (Albany, Delaware, Richmond, and Villanova) earn berths in the 2023 NCAA FCS playoffs, which marked the 13th time that at least four CAA teams were chosen for the playoffs. The conference has had at least one team reach the quarterfinals every year since 1995 and has had a team advance to the semifinals in 10 of the past 11 seasons. The CAA will sport a new look in 2024 with the addition of Bryant from Smithfield, R.I. although the Pirates will not face the newcomer in 2024.
