SWAC women’s basketball champion Jackson State didn’t get a no. 16 seed, but it has its work cut out against UConn in the NCAA Tournament.
JSU was awarded the no. 14 seed in the Portland Regional, earning a matchup with UConn. The game will take place at UConn in Gampel Pavilion on Saturday at 1pm EST.
UConn (29-5, 18-0 BIG EAST) won the BIG EAST’s automatic bid by winning the conference tournament last weekend. The storied program has won 11 national titles and are 132-23 in NCAA Tournament games under Geno Auriemma.
Jackson State is making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, and it’s third under head coach Tomekia Reed. It has yet to win an NCAA Tournament game in its first six attempts.
JSU went to the tournament in 2021 and 2022, nearly upsetting LSU in its second appearance. Jackson State was a no. 14 seed that season as well. JSU missed out on the NCAA Tournament last season, appearing instead in the WNIT. Jackson State is currently 26-6, having gone perfect in conference play as it picked up its fifth-consecutive SWAC regular season title.
