Delaware State takes down Morgan State in HBCU match up

Delaware State

Delaware State handed Morgan State its fifth consecutive loss in a 57-53 contest at Memorial Hall on Thursday evening. The Hornets went into halftime trailing 30-28 but outscored the Lady Bears by six points in the second half to come back and win.

Savannah Brooks scored 17 points in an incredibly efficient 6-of-9 shooting performance to lead the way for Delaware State. The Hornets put a particular emphasis on generating easy looks close to the hoop, shooting 22-of-44 on two-pointers, including 42 points scored in the paint. They secured the win despite subpar efficiency, scoring 0.83 points per possession on 47% true shooting.

Jael Butler recorded 14 points and nine rebounds, and Emily Jones contributed another nine points to pace Morgan State. As a team, the Lady Bears had some offensive struggles, scoring just 0.75 points per possession on 33% shooting from the field. It was a forgettable game from three-point range as the team collectively shot 2-of-14 from deep.

  • Delaware State committed seven unforced turnovers (10% of possessions)
  • Morgan State was plagued by 10 unforced turnovers (14% of possessions)
  • Ja-Naiah Perkins-Jackson led all game players in plus-minus with a +8

Both teams take the floor again on March 2. Delaware State takes on conference rival Norfolk State at Memorial Hall, where the Hornets will look to extend their winning streak. Meanwhile, Morgan State will be thankful to return home when they take on MEAC foe South Carolina State at Hill Field House.
