NFL Draft prospect R.J. Mobley showcases speed with size

Winston-Salem State University wide receiver R.J. Mobley seized the moment in New Orleans to showcase his talents on the field in an attempt to impress NFL Draft scouts. The third annual HBCU Combine kicked off early Monday morning in New Orleans, LA.

There were some stellar performances put on display by numerous athletes. Top-rated HBCU players from all parts of the country came down to The Big Easy to further make the case to be drafted or at least earn a shot in the NFL. Those top guys surely didn’t disappoint, including R.J. Mobley.

Mobley was a First Team All-CIAA selection for WSSU  in the 2023 season, hauling in 43 passes for 598 yards and seven touchdowns. Putting his best foot forward against the HBCU Gameday preseason top-ranked NCCU Eagles, where he caught seven passes and racked up 113 yards, leaving no doubt that the HBCU Legacy Bowl committee made the right decision by selecting him.

Mobley is a 6 ‘3, 210 lb wideout who passes the “eye test’ ‘ with flying colors. Typically, with that frame and being from a Division II school, the question from NFL Draft scouts have is whether or not he has pro speed.

He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash time to put that to rest. Along with a 32-inch vertical & 10ft broad jump, just in case there was any doubt about his athleticism. RJ Mobley will be back in action Saturday at 4 PM in the HBCU Legacy Bowl representing his university.
