Langston University clinches title, eyes no. 1

LANGSTON — Three players scored in double figures as the No. 2 Langston University Lions rolled the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies 76-48 on Saturday evening.

Langston built a 35-21 halftime advantage after hitting 43 percent (13-of-30) from the field and holding the Aggies offense to 29 percent shooting (seven-of-24). The Lions did not let up in the second half, leading by as many as 32 in the second en route to a 76-48 victory.

The Lions improve to 25-1 overall and 19-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. Langston has two regular season games remaining before the start of the SAC Men’s Basketball championship tournament on Thursday, Feb. 29.

In addition to clinching the title, Langston has a solid shot of going to the top of NAIA rankings. No. 1 Grace (Ind.) suffered its first loss of the season last week.

Langston clinched the SAC regular season title for the second straight year on Thursday, Feb. 15 by defeating Wayland Baptist 70-65.

Cortez Mosley led the way with a season-high 27 points and 11 boards; D’Monte Brown and Michael Wright also tallied double figures with 13 points apiece.

Langston University (25-1, 19-1 SAC) returns to action next Thursday at Texas Wesleyan. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
