Podcast: CIAA halftime now a one sided affair

HBCU Gameday Podcast

The biggest news this week is Howard University knocking off UNLV, I think? Until we heard that a CIAA halftime show in 2017 will no longer include visiting bands due to NCAA restrictions on the timeliness of half time.

Of the handful of games we’ve attended so far this season we’ve seen visiting teams from the SWAC, SIAC, MEAC and Tennessee State perform at halftime.  Virginia State, a CIAA member, performed on the road at Norfolk State as well.  So we had a lot to break down in that conversation this week.

Next for Howard?

We discuss Howard University and their big win over UNLV behind the breakout maiden performance of Caylin Newton.  We are really looking forward to what the Bison might do against Kent State.  Can you imagine if Howard beats Kent State to set up a huge matchup with Richmond in week three.  If you don’t know the tie in between Richmond and Howard, you’ll have to listen to the podcast for the details.

This weekend we’re really excited about a couple of matchups that we might see again in November.  WSSU vs Bowie State and Tuskegee vs Albany State.  Both matchups feature the predicted preseason showdowns for the CIAA and the SIAC championships.

Stay safe this weekend and we’ll see you at the games!
