SWAC-And-Shoot: TxSo improves to 2-0, AAMU remains winless

Texas Southern was tested but remains unbeaten in the post-Derrick Griffin era. TxSo beat SWAC West rival Southern 82-74 on Wednesday night to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

TxSo got a boost from Zach Lofton, who scored a game-high 22 points.

Elsewhere in the SWAC, Grambling denied Alabama A&M its first victory of the season as it came up with a 69-67 win on the road in Huntsville. Nigel Ribeiro was the hero in that game as he went for 31 points and helped his team turn a five point deficit at the 4:14 mark into a two-point win.

Alcorn State came up with a solid 66-55 win at home over Prairie View behind 18 points from Reginal Johnson.

Edric Dennis scored 30 points for Jackson State as it came up with a 63-60 win over Alabama State.

Lofton hit 14 of 15 free throw attempts in TxSo’s win.
