MEAC/SWAC Challenge: Alcorn State hoping to change SWAC’s misfortune

For most of it’s existence, the MEAC/SWAC Challenge has been less than challenging for the MEAC. That may not be the case this year.

This year’s showcase features two teams that won championships last season, with Alcorn State taking sole possession of the SWAC Championship while Bethune-Cookman won a piece of the MEAC title for the fourth-straight years.

The MEAC has dominated the competition between the two FCS conferences since its inception, winning nine of 11 times. It has won the last five in a row, including back-to-back wins by BCU in 2011 and 2012.

Alcorn has never participated in the game, but they do give the SWAC a reason to hope. The SWAC has a history of sending some of its worst teams out to go against some of the MEAC’s best. The two-time defending SWAC champs are expected to contend again, and both teams could very well end up in The Celebration Bowl when all is said and done.
