Hampton alumna and Olympic medalist Kellie Wells Brinkley retires from track

One of HBCU track and field’s most recent Olympic successes is calling it quits. Kellie Wells Brinkley, a bronze medalist in the London Games, has announced her retirement from track and field.

She commented on her retirement via Instagram.

Well it’s my first time seeing it on black and white and I’m absolutely sure about my decision!!! I had a wonderful 10+ years in the sport professionally and I wouldn’t change my path for anything! I’m so excited to move on to the next phase of my life and see what true adulthood has to offer! LOL! My role as a wife, mother, and business owner has been nothing but amazing so far and I can only expect it to get better! I want to thank my agent Robert Wagner for giving me a chance, my coach Dennis Mitchell (and his wife @cherrymitchell) for developing a scrawny girl from Hampton university that everyone wrote off into an Olympic medalist, all of my physios and massage therapists who took the time out to help me get healthy and stay healthy, all of my friends who supported me… Inside of the sport and out, my family who came to the games to see me win a medal and those who watched from home and prayed for me….. All of my support from USATF…. Just everyone! I loved my time on the sport but now it’s time for me to leave it to the youngsters!!!! Do it big and make it count!!!! Kellie Wells Brinkley…. Over and out! 👋🏾🖐🏾👋🏾
