HBCU Gameday Podcast Wrap: One-on-One with Latrell Scott

Norfolk State won its first MEAC football title in 2011, but the program has fallen on tough times since then, failing to finish over .500 in each of the following three seasons. Enter Latrell Scott, a former Hampton football star who just led Virginia State to its first CIAA Championship in nearly 20 years and its first-ever Divsion II playoff win.

We caught up with Scott to talk about rebuilding NSU football, his time at VSU and the upcoming rivalry game against his alma mater on Sept. 26.

On his time at VSU:

“”It was a very special two years of my life. I can’t say enough about the people about Virginia State.”

On facing Hampton:

“I’m a firm believer in Hampton football, unless I’m playing against them.”

We also talked about Week One of the college football season, in particular, why the money games between PWIs and HBCUs are often looked at differently than the FCS/Division II matchups that took place between some HBCUs last week.
