The football “Battle of The Real HU” is still nearly a monthaway, but Howard has already grabbed the title on the soccer field. The Howard women shut out Hampton 17-0 in its’ home opener in Washington D.C.
Howard outscored Hampton 12-0 in the second half alone and outshot its opponents 62-1 for the game.
To be fair, Hampton is in its first year of Division I women’s soccer competiton while Howard is the defending SWAC Champ. Still, an impressive victory for Howard and those bragging rights never hurt.
“It was big for us to get the win,” Howard coach Brent Leiba said after the game. “It’s the ‘Battle of the Real HU’ and it’s nice to finally have it for soccer. We always get to enjoy the experience with (the other sports) so it’s great to finally start our rivalry.”
