SWAC, MEAC Champs facing top-ranked squads in latest Bracketology

We’re one week away from Selection Sunday, and things are starting to get real. ESPN’s Joe Lundardi has released his latest bracketology, and once again, the MEAC and SWAC champs aren’t held in too high of a regard heading into Championship Week.

North Carolina Central heads into this week’s MEAC Tournament at 24-6, having gone through the regular season perfect in conference play (16-0). Despite their sparkling conference record and the fact that they’ve won 20-plus games in the last three seasons, it looks like NCCU will have to win the MEAC to have a shot at the NCAA Tournament.

Lundari has NCCU playing against cross-town national power Duke as a 16 seed in the Charlotte region.

Texas Southern heads into the SWAC Tournament 19-12, with wins over Michigan State and Kansas State to its credit. Even more than NCCU, it will need to win its conference tournament to go to The Big Dance.

Lundardi has TSU playing in a “First Four” game against North Florida for the right to play undefeated Kentucky.
