Hours after winning their respective conference titles, Virginia State and Tuskegee now know where they’ll be playing in the Division II playoffs.
Third-seeded Virginia State will host LIU Post ost in the first round on Saturday. VSU (9-2) defeated Winston-Salem State 21-17 Saturday to claim its first CIAA Championship since 1996.
Tuskgee will host West Georgia on Saturday. The third-ranked team in Super Region Four, Tuskegee (9-2) won the SIAC Championship with a 47-41 win over Albany State on Saturday.
Winston-Salem State, the CIAA runner-up, will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2010. WSSU’s two losses both came to playoff teams (Virginia State and Valdosta State) and it beat playoff-bound Tuskegee early in the season. The 2012 national runner-up will finish its season 9-2.
