College football is still over three months away from starting off, but talent evaluators have already begun to identify who they believe will leave their mark on the 2014 season. The College Football Performance Awards put out its initial watch list for the 2014 Defensive End Award on Monday, and nine of the 38 players listed came from HBCUs.
*LeBrandon Richardson, Bethune-Cookman
*Rodney Gunter, Delaware State
*Miles Grooms, Hampton
*Damon Gresham-Chisholm, Howard
*Javancy Jones, Jackson State
*Sean Fugate, Mississippi Valley State
*Andrew Carter, South Carolina State
*Anthony Bass, Tennessee State
*Amir Bloom, Texas Southern
Between the MEAC, SWAC and Tennessee State nine of the top forty players at one position is a pretty good indicator of the overall talent these schools are bringing in at that FCS level.
