A&T Linebacker Third HBCU Athlete Murdered In 2014

In a story that’s becoming all too familiar, another HBCU athlete was killed by gun violence earlier this week. North Carolina A&T linebacker Jermane Clarke was shot to death near his home on Tuesday night.

“Clark, 22, was found shot just after 11 p.m. on the street outside his home at 425 Stedman St. just west of campus. The Winston-Salem native was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Moses Cone Hospital.

In a statement late Thursday morning, Greensboro police said a motive for the shooting remains unclear. Capt. Mike Richey told the Associated Press Wednesday it appeared Clark was approached by one or more people and an argument started and he was shot.

Clark was a sophomore psychology major at A&T, and he was listed as a linebacker on the Aggie football team. He played in six of A&T’s 11 games last year and assisted on one tackle against Hampton.”

Clark is the third HBCU athlete to be gunned down this calendar year.

*South Carolina State defensive lineman Brandon Robinson was killed on campus in late January.

*Virginia Union track member Kahron Lee was gunned down in an off-campus apartment in February. Authorities believe Lee’s death came after a confrontation with an 18 year-old that tried to kill steal his shoes.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Clark, his family and the A&T family.
