South Carolina State will be looking for a new athletic director. The T&D is reporting that Charlene Johnson will be moving to another position in the university.
“The university has not yet released what new position she will hold.
Johnson, an S.C. State alumnus, was the first woman appointed to a full-time coaching position at her alma mater in 1983. She later became the first woman to serve as chairperson of the Directors of Athletics Association in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. And she has served on several NCAA committees and is currently a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee.
During her tenure as athletics director at S.C. State, many of the facilities have undergone major improvements, attendance at athletic contests and revenues have increased significantly and academic enhancement strengthened.”
Johnson has served as AD at her alma mater since 2005.
