The latest government shutdown may be only hours old, but its effects are already being felt in the sports world as well as the political. Tuesday’s soccer match between Howard University and Navy has been cancelled, according to news release on Howard’s athletic website.

“Due to the government shutdown affecting all non-essential government entities, today’s road match between Howard and Navy has been cancelled.”

No makeup has been planned, according to the website.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that it has suspended all intercollegiate athletic competitions at the service academies.
