Winston-Salem State came in to Raleigh riding high, but St. Augustine’s University got a big effort from its bench and came away with a 63-61 win on Saturday. The loss snapped WSSU’s 12 game winning streak.
The Rams shot 53 percent from the field, but the Falcons were able to offset that by out-rebounding them 33 to 25. The Falcon bench also outscored the Rams’ reserves 33-11.
The loss temporarily gave Shaw sole possesion of first place in the CIAA, but they fumbled that away with a 76-70 loss to Livingstone. The two teams will meet in Winston-Salem on Wednesday with both teams looking to take over the top spot.
