HBCU player recovering after scary incident

An HBCU football player is home recovering from what looked to be a tragic injury on Saturday.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff defensive back Kaleb Knox injured his neck in Saturday’s game against HBCU rival Alcorn State. He was on the ground for several minutes and eventually transferred via helicopter to Jackson, MS.

The HBCU released this statement on Sunday:

Thankfully, we’re happy to share that Kaleb Knox has been released from the hospital and he is with his family. Kaleb and his family extends their heartfelt appreciation to our athletic training team, Alcorn’s medical team and the University Medical Hospital (Jackson, Mississippi) for their responsiveness and care during this time.

We are truly thankful for all of your prayers, texts, calls and messages related to Kaleb’s well-being. The communication and coordination throughout this process between our medical team, Athletic Director,

E. DeWayne Robinson, his Senior Associate Athletic Director, (SWA) and their team does not go unnoticed.

UAPB head coach Alonzo Hampton expressed faith after the game that his player would recover.

“Kaleb is an outstanding young man, and we know that’s an unfortunate situation, but we know our God’s gonna cover him,” Hampton said. “Our teammates know, hey man, all we can do is, we can pray for him. We’ll be there for our brother. If he can’t get back out there on that field, then that’s where we need to pick up the slack to be able to play in his honor.”

Knox is a 6’1 senior from Bryant, Arkansas. UAPB lost the game to Alcorn State 38-28 on Saturday.
