Rajah Caruth, a senior at Winston-Salem State University, grabbed the pole position for Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Qualifying was held just before the race which begins on Friday night at 8:30pm EST on FS1.
“I was honestly surprised, I was enthused with our Hendrick Cars.com Silverado, Kind of after a long run in practice I’m really honestly surprised by the qualifying speed. Gotta thank the men and women there at Spire Motorsports, Team Chevy, We’ll hopefully have a good night today and something good for our team to think about for the Olympic break,” Caruth said immediately after qualifying ended.
Caruth ran a fast lap of 22.86 at IRP, the racetrack where he finished seventh a year ago.
The excitement for fans of Caruth is palpable because of one interesting fact. The last time, and only time, Caruth won a NASCAR pole position, he also won the race. Caruth pulled off that double win earlier this year in Las Vegas.
After fourteen races this year Rajah Caruth is currently fifth in the standings for the Truck Series. He’s 188 points behind points leader Christian Eckes and thanks to his Vegas win, Caruth has secured a spot in the playoffs. He’s finished in the top ten in half of the races so far this season.
