The New York Jets may have found a new diamond in the rough from an HBCU in its most-recent minicamp.
Former North Carolina Central defensive back/kick returner Brandon Codrington has earned a contract with the New York Jets following the team’s rookie minicamp, according to Believe Sports Group.
Codrington, who is represented by the group, quoted the post with “All glory to God.”
The Raleigh, NC native was one of several HBCU prospects who earned an invite to a rookie minicamp following the NFL Draft.
Brandon Codrington was a building block for North Carolina Central under Trei Oliver. He joined the team as a freshman in 2019 and was named third-team All-MEAC as he ranked third in the MEAC with a punt return average of 7.8 yards, and averaged 18.8 yards per kickoff return. Two years later he garnered All-MEAC First Team honors as the third-leading punt returner in NCAA Division I-FCS with a MEAC-best 15.0-yard punt return average in 2021.
Codrington scored two touchdowns on punt returns as a senior in 2023, both of them for 80-plus yards. He scored on an 81-yard punt return against Winston-Salem State in the opener and added an 85-yard score against Howard later in the season.
Now Codrington will look to see if he can stick with the New York Jets.
