Fayetteville State is playing in the CIAA Championship Game for the first time in a long time this week. Two of its key players were recognized as the rookies of the year in the CIAA on Thursday.
FSU defensive back Elvin De La Rosa has been announced this year’s CIAA Defensive Rookie of the Year. De La Rosa accounted for 40 total tackles, including 18 solo, for an average 4.0 tackles per game. He recorded one interception and one sack on the season, which assisted in the overall victory over Winston-Salem State University to help FSU advance to the 2017 CIAA Football Championship.
The 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year is running back Donshel Jetton. The freshman finished the season with 503 rushing yards, an average 50.3 rushing yards per game. Jetton has scored 6 touchdowns overall with a career-long kickoff return of 80 yards.
