Offensive Player of The Week
Twarn Mixson, Hampton
We pegged Mixson as the best MEAC receiver heading into the 2015 season, and one game in, he’s made us look like geniuses. Mixon absolutely torched Kentucky State on Saturday, catching seven passes for 135 yards and four touchdowns. He’s on pace for a 44 touchdown season, but we’ve still got quite a ways to go.
Defensive Player of The Week
Javon Hargrave, South Carolina State
Hargrave entered the 2015 season as the MEAC’s Preseason Defensive Player of The Year, and he showed why on Sunday. Hargrave attacked the UAPB line with reckless abandon at the MEAC/SWAC Challenge, racking up 7 tackles, 4.5 of them for loss, including two sacks as SCSU rolled 35-7.
Special Teams Player of The Week
Mike Jones, North Carolina Central
North Carolina Central racked up 72 points on D2 St. Augustine’s last week, and Jones helped set up most of them. Jones returned five punts for a school-record 145 yards, averaging 29 yards per punt.
