Tennessee State made headlines last season for becoming the first HBCU to win an FCS playoff game this century. A big part of the reason why was the team’s success in the state of Florida.
It looks like TSU head coach Rod Reed and his staff are sticking with what works for them, as five members of their latest recruiting class hails from the Sunshine State. That includes transfers like running back Tom Smith (Tennessee) and quarterback Oshay Carter (Georgia Prep Sports.) Reed also added five players from Georgia.
S Javon Brandon, Stockbridge (GA) HS: 5’10, 185lb two-way star runs 4.4 40 yard dash.
G Thomas Burton, Whitehaven HS:
LB Chris Collins, Creekside (GA) HS: 5’10, 220lb recorded a 130 tackles as a senior, and runs 4.6 40.
OL MJ Couzan, Archer (GA) HS: 6’5, 280lb
ATH LaKhalon Holland, Ribault (FL) HS: 5’11, 180lb running back/defensive back runs a 4.4 40.
OL Tony Holmes, Itawamba (MS) CC: 6’3, 300lb
DE Latrelle Lee, Dothan (AL) HS: 6’3, 220lb defensive lineman had 87 tackles (16 TFL) and runs a 4.7 40.

LB Dell Porter, Melrose HS: 6’2, 215lb linebacker had 59 tackles and six sacks in 2013.
TE Chris Wallace, Lanphier (IL) HS: 6’7, 250lb
ATH Tequarri Whitlow, Lafayette (HS): 6’2, 235lb
S Laquarris Cook, Wenonah (AL) HS: 6’0, 185lb defensive back picked off five passes in 2013.
OT Justin Brooks, Melrose HS: 6’6, 275lb tackle can bench press 275, squat 415 and clean 275.
CB Terrell Bonds, Miami (FL) Central: 5’10, 175lb defensive back is younger brother of former TSU receiver Tyrone Butterfield.
