In a recent interview with Darci Khan on “Conversations with Cobi,” the multi-talented athlete and artist shared insights into her journey from the track at Howard University to the canvas and the unexpected opportunity to join the world of WWE.
Darci Khan, a small-town girl hailing from Stockbridge, Georgia, leaped from being a track star at the University of Kentucky to pursue her artistic passions at Howard University. With a concentration in painting, Khan has found a unique balance between her prowess on the track and her expressive artistry.
“I guess I’m just kidding. Track is my forte,” Khan laughed during the interview, but her track record speaks volumes. With MEAC championships under her belt, including participation in the NCAA 100m hurdle championships and the USA trials and championships, Khan has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with on the track.
What sets Khan apart is not just her speed on the track but her ability to translate emotions onto the canvas. Explaining her dual passion, Khan shared, “Track is more of my emotional outlet where I go there to enjoy myself, have fun, be around my teammates, and, of course, winning. Art is more of my political and emotional side.”
Her art focuses on painting black figures in vibrant colors, challenging conventional representations, and expressing her unique perspective. “It allows me to look at my life like, wow, I can do anything. I can be a professional track athlete. I could be a professional artist. I could do anything I really put my mind to,” Khan explained.
The interview took an unexpected turn when Khan revealed her involvement with WWE. She received an offer to join the WWE community, thanks to her best friend Maia, who had previously been part of the organization. Khan sees it as a unique opportunity to explore different facets of entertainment and media, while WWE provides valuable training and exposure.
Addressing her potential WWE journey, Khan hinted at a possible in-ring persona, saying, “Right now, I’m thinking Cobra Khan. It’s real cute and sleek, but I definitely gotta keep the Khan in there.” She expressed excitement about the learning process, media training, and attending WWE matches as part of the experience.
Reflecting on her transfer from the competitive SEC to Howard University, Darci Khan emphasized the nurturing and supportive community at Howard. She shared how the shift allowed her to grow not only as an athlete but also as an artist and individual, appreciating the diverse talents within her team.
As the interview concluded, Khan expressed gratitude for the loving community at Howard, signifying her journey from being a track superstar to an artist and potentially a WWE sensation. The HBCU community celebrates Darci Khan’s unique journey and eagerly awaits her future endeavors, both on and off the track.
