A year ago, Virginia Union was looking forward to the NCAA Division II football playoffs. Now its football program is looking for a new head coach.
Sources tell HBCU Gameday that VUU has relieved Mark James of his position of head coach.
James went 15-6 in his first two seasons, including an 8-3 season in 2015 as he led VUU to the D2 playoffs. The team went backwards in 2016, starting 0-2 and falling to 5-5.
Legendary coach Joe Taylor is the athletic director at VUU, and with more than 30 years of experience as a head coach, it’ll be interesting to see who he tabs to lead the program next.
Taylor must already have someone in mind…or maybe James was doing some foolishness off the field. This firing seems really strange. James seems like a really good coach.
