APR: Howard University excels, other HBCUs face penalties

HBCU Howard University

The latest NCAA APR numbers are out and Howard University is once again leading the way for HBCU football.

These scores reflect the academic performance and retention of student-athletes over a multi-year period. Programs scoring below a 930 multi-year face penalties, which can include practice reductions, and these penalties are intended to encourage institutions to focus on the academic success of their student-athletes.

Howard University held the best NCAA APR among HBCU football programs once again. The reigning MEAC champions came up with a score of 964. All six MEAC football programs were above the pass mark of 930.
