HBCU apparel company LegacyHistoryPride™ has announced a new clothing partnership with NASCAR that celebrates the deep-rooted ties between motorsports and HBCUs.
The company released the following statement.
“This collaboration highlights the shared values of excellence, ambition, and community while offering fans and students alike a chance to engage with the fast-paced world of racing.
Through this partnership, we aim to amplify the impact of NASCAR’s commitment to HBCUs, including initiatives like the NASCAR Campus Lab Program, which was launched in 2023 by NASCAR employee and Howard University alumni Caryn Grant.
This groundbreaking program offers students from HBCUs hands-on experience in the sports industry, providing real-world projects, mentorship from motorsports executives, and career preparation through mock interviews and resume reviews. Students who complete the program can also receive up to $5,000 in scholarship funds, as seen with the first cohort at Bethune-Cookman University, located just miles from NASCAR’s Daytona Beach headquarters.
This collaboration also celebrates the achievements of trailblazing HBCU students and alumni in NASCAR, such as Winston-Salem State University senior Rajah Caruth, who won his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in 2024, and John Cohen, a Grambling State University alum and owner of the New York Racing Team. Additionally, pioneers like Brehanna Daniels, a Norfolk State University standout and the first Black woman to compete as a pit crew member, and Brandon Thompson, a Clark Atlanta University alum and NASCAR’s Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion, represent the growing diversity in motorsports.
Together, NASCAR and LegacyHistoryPride™ are creating unique opportunities for HBCU students and fans to experience the excitement of racing while honoring the achievements of Black professionals in the industry. This partnership embodies the spirit of innovation and progress, with more exciting projects to come.”
The HBCU Racing Pit Crew jerseys retail for 90 dollars each on the LegacyHistoryPride website.
