The City of Charlotte has agreed to a record-breaking financial settlement with the family a former FAMU student-athlete killed by one of its officers.

The city has agreed to a $2.5 million settlement with the family of Jonathan Ferrell, who was killed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Officer Randall Kerrick in September of 2013, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The former FAMU safety was shot 10 times at close range by Officer Kerrick after police were called by a frantic homeowner when Ferrell knocked on her door in the early morning hours after having been involved in an accident.
